Research Profile
Elizondo's scholarly interests are in the areas of theology, evangelization, faith/spirituality, culture and public ritual. Books published include, A God of Incredible Surprises, Latino Religions and Civic Activism in the United States and San Fernando Cathedral: Soul of the City. Galilean Journey: The Mexican American Promise; The Future is Mestizo: Life Where Cultures Meet. As the author of 11 other books, he's recognized as the father of U.S. Latino Religious Thought. He has edited Concilium (published in seven languages). Honors received: the John Courtney Murray Award, Catholic Theological Society; the International Peace Award, Community of Christ; Laetare Medal, University of Notre Dame; the Johannes Quasten Award for excellence and leadership in theological development, Catholic University of America; the Cardinal Cushing Medal for Advancement of Church Research, Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate.
