Research Profile

Blantz's principal academic field of interest has been 20th century United States political and diplomatic history. He has published two biographies, A Priest in Public Service: Francis J. Haas and the New Deal, and George N. Shuster: On the Side of Truth, and various articles in professional journals and encyclopedias. He received the Solon J. Buck Award for the "best article in Minnesota History" in 1970, the Cushwa Center Award for the best book-length manuscript in American Catholicism in 1981, the Emily Schossberger Award for contributions to the Notre Dame Press in 1987, the James E. Armstrong Award for distinguished service to the University in 1997, and the Thomas Madden (1974), Rev. Charles Sheedy C.S.C, (1979) and John A. Kaneb (2001) Awards for teaching.
