Research Profile
Professor McVeigh's areas of specialization include social inequality, social movements, race relations, and political sociology. His research examines structural influences on political mobilization and consequences of mobilization. He has published articles on a wide range of topics such as the United Farm Workers, the Ku Klux Klan, contemporary hate groups, hate crime reporting, and presidential election outcomes. His articles have been published in Sociology's premier journals. These include recent publications in American Sociological Review and the American Journal of Sociology, and numerous articles in Social Forces. He recently completed a book about the rise and fall of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s. Other current research examines political and social consequences of occupational segregation by sex and by race.
