Research Profile
McVeigh’s areas of specialization include social inequality, social movements, race relations, and political sociology. His research examines structural influences on political mobilization and consequences of mobilization. He has published articles on a wide range of topics such as the United Farm Workers, the Ku Klux Klan, contemporary hate groups, hate crime reporting, same-sex marriage, and presidential election outcomes. His articles have been published in Sociology’s premier journals. These include numerous publications in American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, and Social Forces. He recently published a book titled The Rise of the Ku Klux Klan: Right-Wing Movements and National Politics (Minnesota Press, 2009). Current research examines political and social consequences of various types of segregation.
