Fishman is a comparative sociologist whose books include [co-edited with Anthony Messina] The Year of the Euro: The Cultural, Social and Political Import of Europe's Common Currency (University of Notre Dame Press, 2006). Democracy's Voices: Social Ties and the Quality of Public Life in Spain (Cornell University Press, 2004), winner of Honorable Mention for Best Book in Political Sociology, ASA 2005; and Working Class Organization and the Return to Democracy in Spain (Cornell University Press, 1990), available also in Spanish translation (Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas, 1996). He is also the author or co-author of articles and book chapters on regime transitions, European integration, cross-national variation in the evolution of priestly vocations, Weberian methodology, labor movements and related themes. Fishman is currently writing a comparative book on the practice of democracy in Portugal and Spain that examines enduring legacies of reform and revolution in transitions to democracy.Contact Information
