Research Profile
Dowd's field is comparative politics and his region of specialty is sub-Saharan African. His research and teaching have largely focused on religion, ethnicity, democratization and development. His book manuscript, 'Christianity, Islam and Liberal Democracy: Lessons from Sub-Saharan Africa', and articles related to it, are currently under review for publication. Dowd is director of the newly launched Ford Family Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity.
