Research Profile

Rick, a member of the ND theatre faculty since 1991, teaches courses in Costume Design, Costume Construction, and Costume History as well as Makeup for the Stage, Introduction to Theatre, and Broadway Theatre Experience. His costume designs for the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival include The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Henry V, The Comedy of Errors and Love's Labors Lost. Rick has conducted research into English Fashions during the Regency as well as Japanese Theatre conventions in Kabuki, Noh, and Bunraku. Rick has worked nationally as a costume designer, costume technician, and costume shop manager at many university and regional theatres. During the summer 2008, Rick designed the acclaimed costumes for Henry the Eighth for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival in Boulder. Rick had the pleasure of designing the costumes for the full-length feature film, Suspended Animation, written by Dorothy Tristan and directed by John Hancock.
