Richard Cross
Professor, Department of Philosophy
John O'Brien Endowed Chair
Degrees
BA, MA, D.Phil. University of Oxford
Research Profile
Cross's research has largely focused on the philosophy and theology of John Duns Scotus. His doctoral dissertation was on Scotus's Christology, the research from which formed the basis of his The Metaphysics of the Incarnation: Thomas Aquinas to Duns Scotus (2002). Cross wrote a book on the physics of Duns Scotus (1998), and one entitled Duns Scotus on God (2005). In addition, he has written on the philosophy of some of the later Church Fathers (philosophy of mind, theories of mixture, and theories of universals). Currently Cross is working on a book on Scotus's cognitive psychology and hopes in time to work more fully on accounts of universals in early Christian writing, and on the Christology of the Reformers.
