Research Profile
Griffin's work explores the global and Atlantic dimensions of such themes as settlement, migration, intercultural relations, and revolution. He has published books and essays covering these broad topics as they played out in early American history, as well as early modern Irish and British history. His publications include The People with No Name: Ireland's Ulster Scots, America's Scots Irish, and the Creation of a British Atlantic World (Princeton, 2001); and American Leviathan: Empire, Nation, and Revolutionary Frontier (New York, 2007). Griffin is presently working on a comparative study of colonial and provincial society in Ireland and Virginia.
