Research Profile
Arnold specializes in the American presidency, administrative organization and its development, and policy formation. His book, Making the Managerial Presidency, won the 1987 Brownlow Book Award of the National Academy of Public Administration and was expanded in a second edition published in 1998. Arnold has published many articles and book chapters on the presidency and public administration, receiving the American Society of Public Administration's 1996 Marshall Dimock Award for an article published in Public Administration Review. His current work focuses on the presidency of the Progressive era. His book, Building Progressive Leadership, is due out in 2009. Arnold is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
