Research Profile

Tomasula's creative work centers on themes of mortality, regeneration and the dynamics of human relations. Her paintings examine and extend the traditions of Latin American religious art by depicting familiar objects in highly stylized, symbolic compositions meant to act as metaphors for her thematic concerns in a way that will resonate for contemporary audiences. She has had twelve one-person exhibitions at Forum Gallery, the Mexican Fine Arts Museum in Chicago, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Zolla/Lieberman Gallery. Her work has also been shown at the Katonah Museum of Art; the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design; the State of Illinois Gallery; the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art; the Graham Foundation; and in over one hundred other venues. Her work has been reviewed in such publications as The New York Times, ArtNews and The New Yorker among numerous others.
