Tzvi Novick
Lecturer
Department of Theology
Degrees
B.A., J.D., Yale University; M.A., Yeshiva University; Ph.D. (expected Dec.2008), Yale University
Research Profile
Novick studies law and ethics in early rabbinic Judaism. Of particular interest is how legal and ethical categories develop, and how the articulation of such categories creates new possibilities for normative expression even as it forecloses others. Interests beyond rabbinic Judaism include the semantics and pragmatics of Biblical Hebrew, law and narrative in the Hebrew Bible, biblical interpretation in the Second Temple Judaism, and comparative liturgy.
