Research Profile

Professor Nalepa researches ways in which new democracies deal with members and collaborators of the authoritarian regimes preceding democratic transitions, with her main area of expertise being Eastern Europe. She is interested in the strategic underpinnings of dealing with the past. Nalepa’s research has led to the study of democratic processes and incentives they create for politicians to strategically exploit the opportunities that democratic institutions present them with. She uses game theoretic approaches to political science.
