Research Profile
Ibsen specializes in Spanish American literature with a particular interest in Mexican narrative and women writers. Her Author, Text and Reader in the Novels of Carlos Fuentes was published in 1993, and in 1997 she published The Other Mirror, a book on contemporary Mexican women writers. Her third book, Women's Spiritual Autobiography in Colonial Spanish America, appeared in 1999, and a fourth, Memoria y deseo: Carlos Fuentes y el pacto de la lectura, was published by the Fondo de Cultura Economica in 2003. She is presently engaged in a book-length project on cultural representations of the Mexican Second Empire. Ibsen has been a recipient of NEH and Fulbright fellowships, and was the on-site director for the International Studies Program in Mexico in 2003. In 2001 Professor Ibsen was the recipient of a Kaneb Award for faculty, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to undergraduate education.
