Research Profile
Sullivan’s research examines the consumption, saving, and borrowing behavior of poor households, and how welfare and tax policy affects the well-being of the poor. A recent paper analyzes consumption and income based measures of poverty in the U.S. over the past fifty years. He is a research affiliate of the National Poverty Center at the University of Michigan. His research has been supported by grants from the Smith Richardson Foundation, the Earhart Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and the United States Department of Agriculture. Sullivan has published articles in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Human Resources, the Journal of Public Economics, and the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. He was a recipient of the W. E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research Dissertation Award in 2003.
