Research Profile
Jayanta Sengupta’s primary research interests are the social and cultural history of modern South Asia, Indo-US intellectual interactions, and contemporary Political Islam. He taught previously at Jadavpur University, India, and has held visiting appointments at the Universities of Cambridge, Pennsylvania, Heidelberg and Utah State University. He is currently working on two book projects – one on the discourses of development and democracy in twentieth-century Orissa, and the other on U.S. Orientalist perceptions of India during 1850-1950.
