Research Profile
Mack's focus of research includes North American archaeology, particularly for areas of northern California's and southern Oregon's Southern Cascades and the affluent hunter-gatherer cultures which inhabited the region before Euro-American contact; Native American art, particularly basketry; and museum studies, focusing on the presentation and perception of Native American objects in art, history, and natural history museums. In addition to being the expert on the ceramics from archaeological sites in the Southern Cascades (writing extensively on that topic), Mack is also recognized as the primary archaeological researcher for a 25 mile stretch of the Upper Klamath River which runs from Keno, Oregon, downriver to the vicinity of Interstate 5 in California. She has written several monographs concerned with the archaeological resources within that area and their significance. In addition, she just finished a National Register Nomination for a group of archaeological sites located within the California portion of this research area and a monograph on an archaeological site in her research area.Contact Information
