Research Profile
Duffy’s area of expertise is the historical development of literacy and rhetoric in cross-cultural contexts. He is co-editor of The Rhetoric of Everyday Life (University of Wisconsin Press, 2003) and has written a book, Writing from These Roots: The Historical Development of Literacy in a Hmong-American Community (University of Hawaii Press, 2007), which won the CCCC 2009 Book of the Year award. He is the recipient of an NEH Fellowship and a Joyce Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. Professor Duffy directs the College Seminar and the University Writing Programs. He teaches courses on literacy, rhetoric, writing, and literature.
