Research Profile
Brogan is concerned with all aspects of 20th Century American Literature, as well as language theory. Her early Stevens and Simile offered her own theory of language; Part of the Climate examined 20th Century American "cubist poetry" as a phenomenon between the First and Second World Wars; Women Poets of the Americas, which she co-edited with Cordelia Candelaria, gathered original essays focused on the shared political and poetic realities of women poets in the Western hemisphere, despite differences in ethnicity or country. The Violence Within/The Violence Without examines Wallace Stevens' changing poetics as a response to the pressures of World War II. She is also a poet, and her own collection entitled Damage appeared in March 2003. Other particular interests include Elizabeth Bishop, June Jordan, Adrienne Rich, Alice Walker, and Ernest Hemingway.
