Research Profile

Professor John Borkowski holds the Andrew J. McKenna Family Chair at Notre Dame and is the recipient of the Career Research Scientist Award from the Academy on Mental Retardation, the winner of Notre Dame’s Faculty Award and Research Achievement Award, and a recipient of APA’s Edgar Doll Award. He is currently engaged in two multi-site intervention projects designed to understand and reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect in at-risk mothers. A third major longitudinal project has followed children born to adolescent mothers in the late 1980s, as they enter their turbulent teenage years; his research is supported by NICHD. Professor Borkowski has published more than 150 research papers and chapters and is the co-author of eight psychology texts, including Prevention: The Science and Art of Promoting Healthy Child and Adolescent Development (2006), and Risk and Resilience: Adolescent Mothers and Their Children Grow Up (2007).
