Fernandez-Armesto is a polymath, with over a dozen books and over a hundred articles to his credit, beginning with pioneering research on the Spanish and Portuguese world in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, including widely reviewed biographies of Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci and moving to foundational works of global history, including Civilizations (Free Press, 2001), The Americas, (Modern Library/Random House, 2003) and Truth: A History (St. Martin’s 1997). Forthcoming is a piece on the human person sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. He contributes frequently to the Times Literary Supplement and other journals of opinion. Almost all of his publications have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese as well as various other languages. He will teach in Notre Dame’s London program each spring, and on campus in South Bend each fall.
