Research Profile
David Hachen’s areas of expertise are in social networks, labor markets, social stratification, organizations, work and occupations, and research methods and statistics. David is an Associate Director of the Inter-Disciplinary Center for Network Science and Applications (ICeNSA), a center that brings together scholars from the Social Sciences, Sciences, Computer Science, and Engineering. David’s research group is currently using longitudinal cell phone network data to study reciprocity, triadic closure, social tie formation and decay, and clustering in social networks. Working with electrical engineers, David is designing a wireless network system through which longitudinal data on communication patterns, social ties, and behaviors can be collected. David, a former Lilly Teaching Fellow, is involved in creating a new graduate training program in Network Science, and is the author of an innovative textbook, Sociology in Action: Cases for Critical and Sociological Thinking (Sage, 2001) which uses decision cases to activate student learning.
