Research Profile
David Hachen’s areas of expertise are in labor markets, social stratification, organizations, work and occupations, and social networks. He is currently involved in two major research projects. The Temporary Help and Staffing Agency (THSA) Project funded by Pilot Funds for Faculty-Student Research Teams in the Social Sciences at Notre Dame involves an organizational survey of THSAs designed to better understand the restructuring of labor markets and the increasingly important role of labor market intermediaries. The NSF-funded WIPER project is a joint 3-year project with physicists and computer scientists designed to analyze cellular telephone communication networks and develop an emergency response system that can analyze in real-time the communication patterns of millions of wireless phone users. David is also the author of an innovate introduction to sociology textbook, Sociology in Action: Cases for Critical and Sociological Thinking (Sage, 2001) which uses decision cases to activate student learning.Contact Information
