Research Profile
Gibson is a cognitive psychologist with research interests in perception, attention, and visual cognition. He has used behavioral, mathematical, and electrophysiological techniques to understand how internal mental states such as our goals and intentions combine with physical aspects of the external world to influence perception and attention. In addition, Gibson has also begun to study the enhancement of working memory in normal and clinical populations (ADHD). Gibson's research has received support from the National Science Foundation and he has published in a variety of top-tier journals including, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, Psychological Science, and Perception & Psychophysics. He has recently co-edited a book on attentional control which will appear as a special issue of Visual Cognition, and he was recently appointed as Associate Editor of Perception & Psychophysics (2006-2013). He also serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, and Visual Cognition.
