Research Profile

Juan is an internationally acclaimed director-playwright. As playwright he is known for expressing issues to the edge. His directorial works are marked by visual poetry, movement, and language in space. Throughout his career he has received numerous international awards and honors in such countries as France, Greece, and the Philippines. Juan is the founding Artistic Director of Theatro Aggelon Bima, Athens and on the board of the International Forum of Playwrights of the international Theatre Institute. He continues his service to culturally insularized communities and sectors in the Philippines and holds theatre and communication workshops for public school teachers in the southern islands. His book on Philippine Drama won the 100 Best Books of University of the Philippines Press Centennial Awards, 2008. At Notre Dame, he leads his students towards theatre dealing with social concerns.
