Simpson’s research interests include late medieval western European literature, 1150–1550; images and idolatry; and hermeneutics and the history of reading. His most recent books are Burning to Read: English Fundamentalism and Its Reformation Opponents and Under the Hammer: Iconoclasm in the Anglo-American Tradition.
