Description:

The Department of Africana Studies focuses on the experiences of the African Diaspora—the global dispersion of peoples of African descent—with a special emphasis on the African and African-American experience. It fosters understanding of the pivotal position that the African-American experience has had in the development of American literature, history, and society. It also provides a basis for understanding the African Diaspora's literature, culture, society, and contributions to the historical roots and contemporary development of African American culture.
