Arts and Letters Undergraduates
Declaring just one major does not seem to satisfy the average Notre Dame undergrad; first majors, supplementary majors, and minors complement each other, forming an educational experience as unique as each of our students. Arts and Letters even offers the opportunity for students to create self-designed majors, tailored to individual interests.
Once they have declared their chosen field of study, Arts and Letters undergrads capitalize on additional opportunities for their growth and enrichment. They pursue honors tracks, offered by the great majority of departments. They acquire second and third languages— and speak them while studying abroad. Mentored by faculty advisors, they create independent research projects.

Arts and Letters Graduate Students
Commitment to interdisciplinary study enlivens the Arts and Letters graduate experience. No matter the Ph.D. pursued, Arts and Letters encourages its students to consider how their focus of study intersects with other fields — illustrated by specific strengths in Gender Studies, Irish Studies, and Latin American/Caribbean Studies.
Graduate offerings in Philosophy and Theology are among the best in the world, and the rising reputation of the Social Science departments allows Arts and Letters graduate students to work alongside some of the nation's foremost scholars. Tellingly, Arts and Letters grad students praise the collegial atmosphere and support offered by their graduate programs.
