The Center for the Study of Religion and Society presents, “New Conversations in Religion and Science: What Difference Might Critical Realist Philosophy Make?”, an interdisciplinary conference hosted by Director Christian Smith, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Sociology.
How might conversations between science and religion be helped by the philosophy of critical realism? How can we examine things like “love,” “forgiveness,” “virtue,” and “divinity”—so crucial to many communities of faith—from scientific perspectives? What can communities of faith learn about the world from social scientists and philosophers—and vice versa? This conference brings together thinkers in religion, theology, and social science to explore how critical realism might help us address such questions with fresh, constructive answers.
