Concealed and Revealed: The Multiple Mysteries of the Aleppo Codex

-

Location: Hesburgh Center, Room C103

Matti Friedman, journalist and author

Friedman will explore the key role of the Aleppo Codex—the oldest, most complete, most accurate copy of the Hebrew Bible—in the survival of the Jewish people and in the rival narratives surrounding the Codex’s history in the 20th century.

He also will explain how conflicts surrounding the Codex are linked to Jewish history, the founding of the state of Israel, and the creation of the modern Middle East.

Friedman, a former Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press, currently writes for Times of Israel. He is the author of The Aleppo Codex: A True Story of Obsession, Faith, and the Pursuit of an Ancient Bible.
