Degree Requirements

Arts and Letters Credits

The College of Arts and Letters seeks to ensure that its students receive appropriate credit for completed coursework.

Duplicate Credit

Students will not receive Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate credit and course credit for the same course.

Example: If a student has examination credit for Spanish 20010, then the student should take Spanish 20010; no credit will be given if the student does so.

Students will not receive credit for courses of equivalent merit but of different course numbering.

Example: Students are required to take Biblical and Historical Foundations of Theology. The completion of either Theology 10001 or 20001 will satisfy the requirement. Credit will only be given for only one of the two courses.

Credit and Placement

An advisor in the First Year of Studies (http://fys.nd.edu) or in the Office of Undergraduate Studies will provide students with information regarding language exam credit and placement.

Requirements

Students who enter the College of Arts and Letters must complete any outstanding math and/or science University requirements by the end of the sophomore year.

Courses in Logic will not satisfy the Philosophy requirement for students in the College of Arts and Letters.
