Academic Policies

Transfer Credit

A student who wishes to receive credit for a course taken at another college or university must receive approval from the Office of Undergraduate Studies and the related department in the College of Arts and Letters.

Approval Policies

  1. Courses must be pre-approved by the deans in the Office of Undergraduate Studies and by the appropriate department (see below).
  2. Courses must be taken at an accredited university
  3. Courses should be approximately six weeks long, and should be taught in a similar department in which credit is to be granted (example: history should be taught in a history department).
  4. A grade of “C” or better is necessary in order to transfer the credit. Transcripts should be sent directly from the college or university of origin to the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
  5. No more than eight transfer credits may be approved for a single summer.

Approval Procedures

  1. Obtain a Transfer Course pre-approval form from the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
  2. Bring the necessary course description and the form to the chairperson or undergraduate advisor of the related department and obtain his or her signature.*
  3. Return the form to the Office of Undergraduate Studies.

*Departments reserve the right not to approve transfer credit for courses.
