Academic Policies
Final Exams
A two-hour final examination must be given at the time and place stipulated in the official examination schedule. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the chairperson and approved by the dean.
Absence from Exams
Unexcused absences from the semester examination will result in the student receiving a grade of no credit on the final examination.
The instructor and the student's dean will determine whether the cause of absence was sufficient to permit the later administration of the examination.
Exam Limits
No student shall be required to take:
- More than two final examinations in one day;
- More than three final examinations in a 24-hour period.
Exam Conflicts
Instructors may not change times of the examination for the class, but special arrangements can be made for students who have conflicts in examinations under the following guidelines:
-
The conflict will be resolved by an assistant dean from the Office of Undergraduate Studies who will communicate with and convey the decision to both faculty involved.
A student who has a conflict must contact an assistant dean at least one week before the start of the final exam period. This will allow the assistant dean time to notify the instructors involved and to resolve the conflict before the start of the final examination period.
-
When two departmental exams conflict, priority should be granted to the smaller class to be examined.
-
When class size does not determine the outcome, lower-numbered courses usually take precedence over higher-numbered ones.
