Academic Policies
Deficiencies
Definition
The registrar will send a mid-semester deficiency report to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who performed unsatisfactorily during the first half of the semester.
The deficiency report does not become part of a student’s permanent academic record.
Purpose
- To make the student and deans aware of difficulties
- To allow the student to receive necessary academic or psychological assistance
- To motivate the student to take responsibility for his/her academic well-being
Involvement by Dean
The deans will require a meeting with a student in order to improve academic performance if:
- The student has received more than one deficiency report during the semester; or
- The student is on academic probation and receives at least one deficiency report.
Student Options
If a student receives a deficiency report, he or she has several options:
- To ask the deans for advice on how to improve performance in order to successfully complete the course;
- to drop the course without penalty by the first Friday following the mid-semester break, as long as that drop still leaves the student with 12 credit hours.
Due Date
Mid-semester deficiency reports are due in the Registrar's Office at 3:00 p.m. on the Friday prior to mid-semester break.
