If you are not a sophomore planning on Studying Abroad next year, please make an appointment or stop by 104 O'Shaughnessy after Nov. 9th.

Are you a sophomore planning on Studying Abroad?

  • Think about how the program you are interested in fits with your academic goals
  • Start an on-line application in the OIS site http://www.nd.edu/~ois
  • See your director of undergraduate studies, before getting Dean’s approval
  • Read and fill out  the following chart before making an appointment with a Dean
  • Consult with a Dean in 104 O’Shaughnessy Hall to secure approval before the deadline of NOVEMBER 6, 2009
  • Look at the following guidelines to determine how to get credit for courses from abroad

Important notice:  You need to have completed CSEM by the time you go abroad as well as your two math and science requirements

Our main goal:

Our Office’s main goal is to help you throughout your undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame. Our team of Assistant Deans share a range of responsibilities, including general and developmental advising of current Notre Dame undergraduate and transfer students; coordination of the transfer and readmission application process; planning and oversight of sophomore PIN Night; approval to study abroad; and extensive advising regarding completion of courses while abroad and the incorporation of this experience into your academic path at large. Additionally, we are the unit responsible for certification of your undergraduate degree status.

Also, the Deans work diligently with faculty, Directors of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), and various offices across campus to plan course scheduling, coordinate New Faculty Orientation, and to develop partnerships to better serve the Notre Dame community.

Each Dean has been assigned a set of special projects and initiatives. Hopefully, the following information will offer you an overview of our main activities for this academic year:

Why should I Meet the Undergraduate Deans?

Stuart Greene, Associate Dean

º Because you are interested in talking about undergraduate research and sources of funding. He oversees LBC
º Because you are interested in
education. He directs the minor in Education, Schooling, and Society, does research on public schools, and is the liaison for the Education Program at SMC
º Because you are interested in
writing a thesis. He chaired a committee on developing a thesis culture in the College

º Because I am thinking of applying to ACE. She has served in the ACE Selection Committee since 2000
º Because I am interested in studying abroad. She grew up in Mexico and has been an international student in France and the USA
º Because I am thinking of applying to law school. She attended Chicaco-Kent College of Law

º Because I would like to become involved with the Journal of Undergraduate Research. He is the faculty advisor for the JUR

ºBecause I would like to study abroad.  She has studied abroad on numerous occasions and lived in Angers for two years, helping with the ND program there

Graduate and Professional School Advising

Assistant Deans in the Office for Undergraduate Studies provide advising to students wishing to apply to Law School, Medical School, Dental School, or graduate school in the Health professions.
