Director of Budget and Operations

Rob J. Becht

Rob J. Becht was appointed Director of Budget and Operations in 2007. He received his undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Notre Dame, an M.B.A. from the University of Miami, and his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School.

Mr. Becht has extensive experience in the financial, managerial, and legal fields, including expertise in budgeting, organizational planning, and integrating mission goals with budgetary principles. A former associate with the firm of Snell and Wilmer in Phoenix, Arizona, he specialized in healthcare, transactional, and regulatory issues. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Becht served as President and CEO of Country Health Associates in Florida, where he directed all operating, financial, and regulatory compliance matters, including the development of budgets and cash flow plans, the negotiation of contracts, financial tracking and reporting, and the recommendation of financial adjustments in response to changing healthcare financing mechanisms. He also has experience with hiring processes and the development and communication of organizational philosophy and mission.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Budget
    The Director of Budget and Operations is responsible for budget planning and administration for the College's unrestricted budget as well as the oversight and review of the College's restricted funds. He allocates funds for non-regular faculty hires and is the primary contact for special funding requests. In addition, he administers faculty research accounts, procurement cards, and faculty appointments.
  • Staff
    Mr. Becht provides second-level supervision, management, and leadership for all staff in the College--evaluating staff structure, reviewing performance evaluations, and recommending annual salary increases. He facilitates corrective action when necessary and recommends strategies for improving performance.
  • Operations
    The Director works with all Associate Deans on operational matters and particularly with the Associate Dean for Strategic Planning, Advancement, Infrastructure, and Special Projects on facilities and space planning and computing and information technology needs. His responsibilities include the management of the College's three copy centers, the computing operations, and the staff of the College.
