Ava Preacher

Ava Preacher was appointed Assistant Dean in 1993. She received her bachelor's degree in letters and master's degree in comparative literature from the University of Iowa. Ms. Preacher served as the Director of Gender Studies at Notre Dame from 1990-1993. She is currently the University's Victim's Resource Person for victims of Sexual Assault.

Administrative Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean holds primary responsibility for academic advising of undergraduates within the college, particularly the junior and seniors. She oversees the Arts and Letters majors fair and transfer student orientation, serves as the Pre-law advisor for the University, and initiated and administers the Dean’s Fellows program for developing Arts and Letters undergraduate scholars.

The Assistant Dean also serves as the faculty representative for the Truman Scholarship, a national scholarship for students interested in careers in public servic and conducts the new faculty orientation to introduce new Arts and Letters faculty to Academic Code regulations and policy regarding undergraduates.
