Reformation historian to lecture at Notre Dame
Irena Backus, professor of Reformation history and ecclesiastical Latin at the Institute of Reformation History of the University of Geneva, will give a lecture on "Reformation Scepticism Revisited: Faith and Reason in Erasmus and Castellio" at 4:30 p.m. April 2 (Wednesday) in Room 129 of the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Hall.
Backus is the author of numerous essays and books on medieval and Reformation traditions, including, most recently, "Reformation Readings of the Apocalypse: Geneva, Zurich, and Wittenberg" and "Historical Method and Confessional Identity in the Era of the Reformation (1378-1615).
The lecture is sponsored by Notre Dame's Nanovic Institute and the Department of Theology.
