Biochemist Miller to lecture on "intelligent design" and faith
Kenneth Miller, professor of biology at Brown University, will give a lecture on "The Collapse of `Intelligent Design': What Does it Mean for Science and for Faith?" at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (April 12) in the main auditorium of the Jordan Hall of Science at the University of Notre Dame.
Miller, a Catholic biochemist, is the author of "Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution." Also the author of the nation's most widely used high school biology textbook, he has helped lead nationwide efforts to prevent the placement of `intelligent design' theory in high school curricula. He argues that an acceptance of the evolutionary theory need not conflict with belief in God and, in fact, can enrich religious belief.
Miller's lecture is being sponsored by Notre Dame's Institute for Scholarship and the Liberal Arts (ISLA), the College of Science and the theology department.
