Please join us as Professor Quendler discusses "Theory in Motion: Media Blends in Vachel Lindsay's The Art of the Moving Picture (1915/22)", a lecture examining the pioneering American film theorist Vachel Lindsay's foundational role in the development of a theoretical framework for the study of film at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Professor Christian Quendler is an assistant professor of American Studies at the University of Innsbruck and comes to Notre Dame as part of the Innsbruck faculty exchange program. Professor Quendler is the author of numerous essays on film and literature. His books include From Romantic Irony to Postmodernist Metafiction (2001) and Interfaces of Fiction: Initial Framigs in the History of the American Novel (1790-1900). His current project, Blending Media: Film and the Other Arts in Vachel Lindsay's The Art of the Moving Picture, is an historical study of the critical and cultural efforts to establish film as a serious art form in the early twentieth century.
